Description

Bukhara is one of the most ancient cities of Uzbekistan, located on a sacred hill, a place where in the spring fire worshipers brought their victims. This city is mentioned in the Holy Book of Zoroastrians - "Avesta".

Lyabi-Khauz (XVI-XVII centuries) - Madrasah Kukeldash (XVI century), etc.

It is assumed that the city was founded in the XIII century. BC. during the reign of the Siyavushids, who began to rule 980 years before Alexander the Great. The name «Bukhara» comes from the word «vihara», which in Sanskrit means «monastery». The city was a large commercial center on the Great Silk Road. Bukhara was a center for the study of sciences, known throughout the Islamic world. It was here that the great Sheikh Bahauddin Naqshband lived. He was the central figure in the development of the mystical Sufi doctrine in the philosophy and religion of Islam. In Bukhara, there were more than 350 mosques and 100 religious colleges. Now Bukhara with more than 140 architectural monuments is a «city-museum», more related to the Middle Ages. After 2300 years, ensembles like Poi-Kalon, Kosh-Madras, mausoleum of Ismail Samani attract tourists from all over the world. The city consists of narrow streets, green parks and gardens, historical and architectural monuments that belong to different epochs, but are very close to each other.

Surrounded by the vast expanses of the Kyzylkum desert, Bukhara still preserves the atmosphere of the ancient city of the Great Silk Road.
